(A+)The highest peak in Northeast Asia– Yushan Main Peak | 2 Days & 2 Nights

Jade Mountain(Yushan) Main Peak is located in the central part of Taiwan, standing at an elevation of 3,952 meters. It is the highest peak in Taiwan, ranked first among the top 100 peaks, and also the highest peak in Northeast Asia. The Main Peak is surrounded by the East, South, West, and North Peaks, with the Front Peak, Xiaonanshan, Nanyushan, Dongxiaonanshan, Lushan, and Beibeifeng echoing from the periphery. Like stars circling the moon, they accentuate the majestic and regal status of the Main Peak. Its grand and awe-inspiring landscape, exceptional panoramic views, and breathtaking sunrises attract countless domestic and international climbers. In recent years, scaling it has even become one of the three things a Taiwanese person must accomplish in their lifetime. There are two main mountaineering routes. The "Batongguan Route" on the east side starts from Dongpu; it is less frequented due to a larger drop in elevation and some collapsed sections. On the other hand, the "Tataka Saddle Route" on the west side features well-maintained trails, clear signage, and safety facilities. This route can typically be completed in two days and one night, or three days and two nights. Along the way, hikers will pass the trailhead of Yushan Front Peak, which takes about two hours for a round trip with light packs. Yushan West Peak is about 2.2 kilometers away from Paiyun Lodge and features a Japanese-era mountain shrine at the summit, requiring a round trip of around 150 minutes. If time and physical strength permit, hikers can also bag these two Top 100 Peaks along the journey.

Product Description

Yushan Main Peak, standing at 3,952 meters above sea level, is the highest mountain in Taiwan. It is located on the border between Xinyi Township in Nantou County and Alishan Township in Chiayi County.

As one of the most iconic peaks in East Asia, Yushan is also widely regarded as a symbol of Taiwan.

(Yushan)Jade Mountain Main Peak features not only magnificent natural landscapes but also rich ecological resources and cultural significance, and it is listed as one of the world's top 100 famous mountains

Features and Cultural Significance of Yushan

1. Geology and Terrain

Yushan Main Peak forms part of Taiwan's Central Mountain Range and was formed through the uplift caused by tectonic plate movement. Its towering terrain and magnificent ridgelines are often shrouded in clouds and mist. During winter, occasional snowfall creates the rare and breathtaking sight of a snow-covered Yushan.

2. Origin of the Name

  • The name Yushan, meaning "Jade Mountain," dates back to the Qing Dynasty. It is believed to have been named for the mountain's resemblance to a piece of pure white jade.
  • During the Japanese colonial period, Yushan was known as Mount Niitaka (Japanese: にいたかやま).

3. Ecosystem and Wildlife

Yushan supports a rich and diverse ecosystem, including rare alpine plants such as the Yushan juniper, as well as wildlife such as the Formosan black bear and Swinhoe's pheasant.

The mountain's climate varies greatly with altitude, resulting in distinct vertical vegetation zones and a diverse range of alpine habitats.

4. Cultural and Spiritual Significance

Yushan is widely regarded as a symbol of the determination and perseverance of the people of Taiwan. Rising majestically at the heart of the island, it has also served as an inspiration for numerous works of literature and art.
